Armenia Fund Statement on the Recent Azeri Attacks on Armenia

A Message from Azatui Karaoglanyan, Executive Director of ArmeniaFund:

September 17th, 2022

To say that we are shocked and saddened by the latest unprovoked attack by Azerbaijani forces on the Armenian homeland would be a gross understatement – we are outraged.

According to the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, approximately 7,600 civilians (many of whom are women, children, the elderly and those with disabilities) have been displaced from their homes in Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor and Syunik provinces in Armenia due to this reckless Azerbaijani aggression. Additionally, heavy shelling has damaged critical civilian infrastructure, and valuable natural and environmental resources in multiple regions. With the disturbing pattern of repeated attacks and brutalities, there is simply no question that more Armenians will fall victim to these continuing hostilities.

I am here in Armenia to actively coordinate with our local personnel and partners on the ground. Our primary goal is to continue to help those immediately displaced and to rebuild in a meaningful and responsible way. We join other international organizations in condemning this unprovoked, inhumane action by Azerbaijan, and stand with the people of Armenia.

Armenia Fund supporters’ dedication to and passion for our homeland has guided us through dark times before, and we will count on that support once again as we work, with all our resources to pick up the pieces and rebuild again.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of all the brave women and men who lost their lives as a result of the recent attacks.

We are unwavering in our support of the Armenian people.
