Talish: Home is where the heart is

“You can say we’re now in little Talish,” Vilen Petrosyan says with a smile as he shows a cluster of temporary residences in Alashan. Petrosyan has been the mayor of Talish for the past 25 years. Today, the communal kitchen, public bath, and administrative buildings of Alashan, a former resort village, have been turned into makeshift homes. Following the April War of 2016, close to 46 families from Talish, totaling 180 residents, have taken refuge in Alashan. Of the rest of Talish’s 500 residents, they’re now scattered across various communities in Artsakh and Armenia. Petrosyan knows exactly where each of his fellow Talish natives has ended up, and assures us that he keeps in touch will all of them.

Building a New Kindergarten for Ijevan

Ijeven is a historic, picturesque town, and the administrative center of northeastern Armenia’s Tavush Region. It has a population of around 21,000. For many
years, Ijevan did not have a proper kindergarten, and the current facility, attended
by close to 120 children, is in a state of severe disrepair, determined to be too decrepit for a refurbishment. In 2017, Armenia Fund began to build a new
kindergarten in the center of town.

Construction of drip-irrigation systems in Artsakh

With proceeds from Telethon 2017, Armenia Fund launched the “Fruitful Artsakh” initiative, a multi-year program that stands to revolutionize Artsakh’s agriculture sector.Although Artsakh has vast water resources, most of the water is located underground, while bringing water from rivers and other bodies of water in the north to farmlands in the southeast would be so expensive as to be unfeasible. As a result, only 7 percent of the country’s over 250,000 acres of arable land were cultivated as of 2017. Armenia Fund is addressing this critically important issue through “Fruitful Artsakh,” a comprehensive program that aims to develop the country’s agriculture on an unprecedented scale, by digging deep-water wells and building drip-irrigation systems.

The Impact

We help the people of Armenia and Karabagh through humanitarian and infrastructure development.

Housing & Urban Development

Aiming to improve housing and quality of life for families and communities alike, we’re implementing an array of projects that encompass the provision of apartments to homeless families, construction of residences for multi-child households and war veterans, and revitalization of diverse urban environments.

Roads & Highways

In addition to being the backbone of the homeland’s economy, roads and highways are of paramount strategic importance. Today, following our work on the North-South and Goris-Stepanakert highways, among others, we continue to build and renovate roads and highways, helping boost the economies of countless communities and stimulate tourism.

Rural Development & Support

As part of our ongoing rural-development efforts, we create community hubs that improve the lives of residents and further connect them to their land. Our multifunctional community centers, built in villages across Armenia and Artsakh, typically comprise a mayor’s office, a library, a health clinic, a multipurpose event hall, and a computer room.

Water Infrastructure

Water is life. And it’s still in dangerously short supply in rural communities across Armenia and Artsakh, particularly in border regions. Today we continue to build state-of-the-art water networks and pipelines, not only to bring life-giving water to rural households, but boost agricultural output by helping irrigate swaths of arable land.

Culture & Heritage

Armenia Fund has constructed and renovated some of Armenia’s and Artsakh’s most important cultural institutions, from the National Motion Picture Archive to the historic Shushi Central Library. As we remain committed to helping foster cultural excellence, we continue to support establishments that build on a rich and diverse artistic heritage.

Schools & Colleges

Education has been a key priority ever since the inception of Armenia Fund, illustrated by our support of various schools including the Vanadzor Music School and Togh Art School. Today, with an abiding vision of promoting educational advancement, we build, renovate, and modernize schools and colleges throughout the homeland.

Agricultural Development

As we’re committed to helping transform the Armenian homeland into an agricultural powerhouse, we provide wide-ranging support to farmers, particularly in rural areas. The assistance we provide includes greenhouses, agricultural machinery, dairy equipment, seeds, and livestock, as well as training and technical support.

Public Health & Medicine

With projects including the reconstruction of Stepanakert Hospital and our landmark partnership with Glendale Adventist Medical Center for providing medical assistance to Noyemberyan, we’re dedicated to helping thoroughly modernize Armenian healthcare, through hospital construction, provision of medical equipment, and telemedicine.

Veterans Support

In recognition of our war veterans’ invaluable sacrifices, we’re committed to honoring their service and helping ease the daily burdens which they and their families face. Our support encompasses mobility equipment such as wheelchairs, vehicles modified for disabled drivers, and financial assistance, including to families of fallen soldiers.

I want to support Armenia Fund.
