Project Details
Background:
In 2014, at the initiative of Hrant Tumasyan, a disabled veteran, Armenia Fund launched a comprehensive assistance program to address daily mobility issues faced by disabled veterans throughout Armenia and Artsakh.
Problem:
Across Armenia and Artsakh today, there are hundreds of disabled veterans with extremely limited mobility due to severe neck, back, spine, and other injuries. Most cannot afford to buy the essential mobility aids they need in order to regain their personal independence and be active.
Solution:
With the support of Armenia Fund, Hrant Tumasyan coordinates the purchase and transportation of modified vehicles for drivers with physical disabilities, as well as an array of mobility aids and medical supplies. These include electric wheelchairs; adjustable electric beds; custom mattresses, pillows, and chairs; special stands; portable oxygen concentrators and pumps; and other essential items.
Impact:
Thanks to the program, the lives of numerous disabled war veterans are being improved year after year. The diverse mobility aids provided to the beneficiaries enable them to become active and independent, to work and take care of their families, and, ultimately, to live their lives with dignity.
