Project Description:
The village of Parakar (population: 7,000) is located in Armenia’s Armavir Region. The Parakar Art School offers a varied curriculum comprising visual arts, music, and crafts, including tapestry, pottery, and carpet-making. Some 200 young students from Parakar as well as nearby villages attend the school’s classes.
In 2007, the building of the Parakar Art School was completely renovated with the financial support of the Armenia Fund affiliate in France. The school was officially opened in July 2007.
The renovation was immediately followed by an initiative to provide the school with the furnishings it needed to function as a full-fledged art, music, and crafts school.
By March 2008, the Armenia Fund, with the financial support of its affiliate in France and Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Tchopourian, provided the Parakar Art School with the full complement of furnishings including chairs, tables, sofas, hangers, mirrors, drawers, desks, two looms, an oven and a shaping machine for producing ceramic works, as well as a copying machine and a computer. The project is named in memory of the late Loussintac and Sahak Tchopourian.
