Armenia Fund International's Newly Appointed Executive Director: Vahe Aghabegians

During Armenia Fund International’s 16th Annual Board of Trustee’s meeting, held on June 19 in Yerevan, Armenia, the Board appointed Mr. Vahe Aghabegians as the new Executive Director. Mr. Aghabegians replaces Mrs. Naira Melkoumian who resigned after leading Armenia Fund International for the past four years. During her tenure, Armenia Fund registered an impressive growth both in the number of donors and annual income. In fiscal year 2006 alone, the Fund was able to raise $22 million USD for various projects.

Executive Director Vahe Aghabegians

Mr. Aghabegians was born and raised in Tehran, Iran. An electrical engineer by training, Mr. Aghabegians has led very successful business ventures and projects both in the United States and Armenia. Since his repatriation to Armenia from Los Angeles in 1998, Mr. Aghabegians has been working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia as an advisor to the Foreign Minister.

Mr. Aghabegians was the Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Los Angeles-based MicroComp Enterprises, a computer programming and business automation consulting firm providing services to Fortune 500 companies.

Mr. Aghabegians managed the Hairenik printing house in Boston, Massachusetts, served as the Executive Director of UniPrints Inc, as well as the President of Romney Group, a sporting goods importing company.

Mr. Aghabegians also worked at the Lincy Foundation in Yerevan, Armenia as the Executive Director of its Investment Unit.

Mr. Aghabegians holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern University, Boston, MA. He is married and has two children.

For the past year, Mr. Aghabegians has been developing the ambitious Village Development Program. Armenia Fund U.S. Western Region welcomes him to the greater Armenia Fund family of affiliates and looks forward to yet another successful year ahead.
